Drawing lots

Q: I would like to know about "kurra" (drawing lots) and the details on how to go about it to do any work.

A: Qur`ah according to the shariah is not something conclusive. This means that if you drew lots and did something, you cannot say that what you have done is confirmed and endorsed by Allah Ta`ala. It is just for the ease of your mind provided it does not amount to you usurping and taking away the rights of any other person.

And Allah Ta'ala (الله تعالى) knows best.

ومثاله أن القرعة ليست بحجة ويجوز استعمالها في تعيين الأنصباء لدفع التهمة عن القاضي فصلحت دافعة لا موجبة (البحر الرائق 8/ 536)

(ومنها) أن يقرع بينهم بعد الفراغ من القسمة ويشترط عليهم قبول من خرج سهمه أولا فله هذا السهم من هذا الجانب من الدار ومن خرج سهمه بعده فله السهم الذي يليه هكذا ثم يقرع بينهم لا لأن القرعة يتعلق بها حكم بل لتطييب النفوس ولورود السنة بها ولأن ذلك أنفى للتهمة فكان سنة والله سبحانه وتعالى أعلم (بدائع الصنائع في ترتيب الشرائع 7/ 19)
