Sunnah qiraat to be recited in witr salaah
Q: What is the sunnah qiraat or surahs to be recited in the witr salaah?
A: There are various masnoon surahs which may be recited in the witr salaah. Among the surahs that are reported in the Ahaadith to be recited in the witr salaah are the following:
1) Recite Surah Aa’laa in the first rakaat, Surah Kaafiroon in the second rakaat and Surah Ikhlaas in the third rakaat.
2) Recite the end of Surah Baqarah (آمن الرسول) in the first rakaat, Surah Qadr in the second rakaat, and Surah Ikhlaas in the third rakaat.
3) Recite the end of Surah Baqarah (آمن الرسول) in the first rakaat, Surah Kaafiroon in the second rakaat and Surah Ikhlaas in the third rakaat.
4) Recite Surah Qadr in the first rakaat, Surah Kaafiroon in the second rakaat and Surah Ikhlaas in the third rakaat.
5) Recite Surah Takaathur, Surah Qadr and Surah Zilzaal in the first rakaat, Surah Asr, Surah Nasr and Surah Kawthar in the second rakaat and Surah Kaafiroon, Surah Lahab and Surah Ikhlaas in the third rakaat. (Though the three surahs to be recited in each rakaat do not follow the normal sequence of the surahs, they will still be recited in this manner, as this is how it is reported in the Mubaarak Ahaadith.)
6) Recite Surah Ikhlaas in the first rakaat, Surah Falaq in the second rakaat and Surah Naas in the third rakaat.

عن ابن عباس قال كان النبي صلى الله عليه وسلم يقرأ في الوتر بسبح اسم ربك الأعلى وقل يا أيها الكافرون وقل هو الله أحد في ركعة ركعة (سنن الترمذي، الرقم: 462)
وعن سعيد بن جبير قال لما أمر عمر بن الخطاب أبي بن كعب أن يقوم بالناس في رمضان كان يوتر بهم فيقرأ في الركعة الأولى إنا أنزلناه في ليلة القدر وفي الثانية بقل يا أيها الكافرون وفي الثالثة قل هو الله أحد وعن سعيد بن جبير أنه كان يقرأ في الوتر في أول ركعة خاتمة البقرة وفي الثانية إنا أنزلناه في ليلة القدر وربما قرأ قل يا أيها الكافرون وفي الثالثة قل هو الله أحد (مختصر قيام الليل صـ 304 ، ونقله العلامة السبكي رحمه الله عن محمد بن نصر رحمه الله صاحب قيام الليل في المنهل العذب المورود 8/55)
عن علي قال كان النبي صلى الله عليه وسلم يوتر بثلاث يقرأ فيهن بتسع سور من المفصل يقرأ في كل ركعة بثلاث سور آخرهن قل هو الله أحد (سنن الترمذي، الرقم: 460)
عن علي قال كان النبي صلى الله عليه وسلم يوتر بتسع سور من المفصل في الركعة الأولى ألهاكم التكاثر وإنا أنزلناه في ليلة القدر وإذا زلزلت وفي الثانية والعصر وإذا جاء نصر الله وإنا أعطيناك الكوثر وفي الثالثة قل يا أيها الكافرون وتبت وقل هو الله أحد (شرح معاني الأثار للطحاوي، الرقم: 1724)
عن عائشة رضي الله عنها أن رسول الله صلى الله عليه وسلم كان يقرأ في الركعتين اللتين كان يوتر بعدهما ب سبح اسم ربك الأعلى وقل يا أيها الكافرون ويقرأ في التي في الوتر قل هو الله أحد وقل أعوذ برب الفلق وقل أعوذ برب الناس (شرح معاني الأثار للطحاوي، الرقم: 1694)
