Keeping the names of angels
Q: Are we allowed to name our children after angels (e.g. Jibraeel, Mikaaeel, etc.)? If we are allowed, then should we name them just Mikaeel or does the name have to be accompanied by a forename such as Muhammad, i.e. Muhammad Mikaeel, Muhammad Jibraeel?
A: Keeping the names of the angels (e.g. Jibraeel, Mikaaeel etc.) is makrooh. One should refrain from keeping these names. It is best that one keeps the names of the Ambiyaa (Alayhimus Salaam), the Sahaabah (Radiyallahu Anhum) and the pious of the past.
And Allah Ta'ala (الله تعالى) knows best.
